Hey there!
Welcome to The Creative Box! This newsletter is your go-to source for all things related to creating and refining your brand image, in under 5 mins per week.
Deep Dive Of The Week
The other day I was scrolling on Instagram and came across this ad.
It made me pause, but not for the right reasons.
I pondered on the thought “How can I make this better”, and go to work.
The Goods
Before redesigning this ad, there were some things it did well:
The student count is great for social proof, but it’s unclear if these are actual students.
The green color and Shopify logo help with brand recognition.
The Improvements
Step 1 - Change the heading
Here’s why:
“Start Shopify Dropshipping” is boring, dull, and doesn’t inspire me to take action.
The ad needs to tell me what I’ll get in return if I take this course.
In the end I only care about myself, and that’s how ALL humans are.
Now, the best way to get around this is to sell the problem. What’s the problem?
A quick Google search reveals the most common problems with dropshipping.
Awesome, let’s sell this problem. With some assistance from ChatGPT we generated a solid heading.
2 reasons why this heading is better:
We sell the most common problem (unable to build a brand) while being descriptive.
This creates a sense of want.
Step 2 - Add social proof
People trust people.
Hence, this ad needs to tell prospects “This course is REALLY REALLY good, all these people have taken it and loved it!”
How do we do that?
By simply showing the students that have taken it of course!
In fact, we need to make it crystal clear.
We use images of the students themselves and the number of students that have taken the course.
Step 3 - Strong visuals
The average person scrolls through 300 feet of mobile content every day.
That's equivalent to the size of the Statue of Liberty.
And most of this is mindless scrolling. Now, If you’re visuals are not scroll stoppers, your prospects are going to zoom past you.
Your number 1 job is to force the user to stop scrolling and see the ad we’ve created.
How?
Bright, vivid, and bold colors
Use images that add’s context to your message.
In this case we’re adding context to the message by visualising the ideal outcome.
The image answers the question “What can I get out of this course?”
The answer is a person smiling with a payment notification on their phone
And there you have it. Is this a better ad or did I completely destroy it? Hit “Reply” and let me know!
Design Dissection
In each edition of The Creative Box, I share my thoughts on the latest developments in the design and branding Industry.
Are you a fan of coffee and playful branding?
Then you’re going to love Top of the Mornin’ Coffee.
It’s a coffee brand by Jacksepticeye. A YouTuber with over 29 Million subscribers.
Firstly let's talk about the mascot design, it's simply outstanding! It’s unique, memorable, and adorable.
Not many brands can pull off a mascot design, but Top of the Mornin' Coffee nailed it.
What's even more impressive is the range of color palettes used in their branding.
From Yellow to Blue to Orange to Pink. It's wide yet complimentary, making it a visual feast for the eyes.
But it's not just the branding that's top-notch, the photography and art direction are pretty sick too.
I love how laid back some of the shots are and how it manages to add context to the tagline “Coffee so good, it’s absurd”
All in all, it’s an identity that truly knows how to create a unique and memorable experience for its customers.
Bold, vibrant, and I’m in love with it. 11/10.
